NOTICE OF VACANCY
Colfax County Attorney, Schuyler, Nebraska
The Board of Commissioners of Colfax County, Nebraska, is accepting applications for appointment to the position of Colfax County Attorney for a vacant 4-year term beginning January 7, 2027. Applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the State of Nebraska. The County Attorney is a full-time, exempt position, and he/she will not be permitted to engage in other public or private practice of law, except by special court appointments. A qualified person does not need to be a resident of Colfax County. The Colfax County Attorney supervises one Deputy County Attorney and three administrative staff. County Attorney responsibilities include misdemeanor and felony prosecutions; juvenile court filings; Mental Health Board, inheritance tax review; advising the County Board and county officials; Coroner duties; Grand Jury; budget; employment matters; fund, reporting, contracts, and grant management; TERC; and all other statutory and regulatory requirements of the office. A background check may be required to assure applicant’s fitness to access restricted data systems. The 4-year annual salary has been set by resolution beginning in 2027 at $135,300.
