SNARE Drug Task Force

The SNARE Drug Task Force is one of many drug task forces in the State of Nebraska. SNARE which stands for Specialized Narcotic Abuse Reduction Effort was established to combat the growing drug related problems in the northeast Nebraska area. SNARE is comprised of six counties to include Antelope, Butler, Colfax, Madison, Platte and Polk along with four city municipalities to include Columbus, Norfolk, Schuyler and Wayne along with the Nebraska State Patrol. The Norfolk Police Department is the coordinating agency, while the Nebraska State Patrol provides the Sergeant to oversee the daily operations. The SNARE Drug Task Force is operated through funds provided by the member agencies as federal funding has been eliminated as the focus of drug enforcement was changed under previous federal administration. The entities that make up the Task Force recognize the need for this group, and their governing boards have provided the funds to continue supporting the project.
The SNARE Drug Task Force has six full time Investigators and each County Sheriff’s Office or City Police Department provide manpower when they are requested for support and large-scale drug operations. The SNARE Drug Task Force also works very closely with federal agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (BATF), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the United States Attorney’s Office, and others.
The SNARE Drug Task Force investigations consist of street level drug violations, large scale drug conspiracy cases, and violent crimes associated with drug activity. The SNARE Drug Task Force also relies on citizen’s tips as they are the ones living in these areas and often times see the activity that may be related to drug crimes.
